“Methymneos” wine
Methymneos was an epithet of Dionysus, Greek god of wine (Plutarch, Moralia, C). The wine “Methymneos” is made from the revived ancient Lesvos Grape Variety, which produced the most expensive wine of antiquity. This red variety is today exclusively cultivated according to the principles of organic farming in the crater of the volcano that once formed the Petrified Forest of the island of Lesvos. True to the Ancient Greek ideal of the harmonious coexistence of opposites, Methymneos red is an oak-aged wine with a strong minerality, but has a delicate muscaty bouquet and a light ruby colour. Methymneos white on the other hand, a blanc de noirs made from the same red variety, is a rather crisp wine with muscaty aromas and a flavour of citrus fruit. Both wines are rather distinctive, as befitting their ancient heritage and the unique area where they are produced.
