The Association of Austrian Pensioners chose once more Greece as the destination of their spring holidays. For a period of five weeks in next April and May, more than 10,000 pensioners from Austria are visiting Halkidiki. This was announced at the Trird Age Exhibition that took place for the twelveth year in Vienne. The Greek tourism stand of the exhibition was visited by almost 100,000 people, who are mostly elderly. This target group, the pensioners, are people who have plenty of time to spend and purchasing power, so many tourist programs are addressing to them. Apart from Halkidiki, the visiting schedule of the Association includes Meteora, Thessaloniki and Mount Athos by boat.

In general, we can say that every years the Austrians choose Greece as their top tourist destination. In fact, they are the most “loyal” visitors of Greece and most of them are likely to come back next year. More than 600,000 Austrians visited Greece in 2007 and this number is expected to increase this year, despite the economic crisis. Apart from the popular places, the Austrians are also looking for more remote and undiscovered Greek places to visit, giving a positive impulse to the economy of these places.
