Capsis Elite Resort, celebrating 40 years of excellent hospitality
In 2018, Out of the Blue, Capsis Elite Resort is celebrating 40 years of excellent and innovative hospitality. To commemorate such an important milestone, we will be running a campaign composed of several activities and promotions throughout the coming season 2018, both inside the resort and externally, celebrating our history and showcasing our outlook for the future.
The Capsis story
The resort opened in 1978, on a 168.000 m2 private peninsula situated next to the Aghia Pelaghia fishing village and very close to the city of Heraklion (the capital of Crete). Descriptively named “Capsis Beach Hotel & Sofitel Capsis Palace Hotel & Convention Centre”, it was composed of two large hotels and a collection of 111 conference venues with a total capacity of more than 4.000 attendees. Being the first resort in Greece to embrace the “meetings & incentives” earned us a dominant role in the European Conference Industry. The hotel hosted many major national events, international meetings and press conferences, such as the “Balkan Countries Chiefs of Defense Meeting” and many others.
The owner Dia Capsis, a 3rd generation hotelier, being always aware of shifts in global trends, envisioned the hotel’s evolution from a convention-oriented resort into a 5-star exclusive and luxurious holiday and wellness destination, starting radical renovations in 2007.
Making sure to respect and conserve the surrounding gardens and age-old trees, a year and a half of construction works transformed the resort into 3 hotel collections, with multiple maisonettes and bungalows, sprinkled throughout the peninsula. To match that shift, the complex was rebranded as “Out of the Blue, Capsis Elite Resort”, highlighting the resort’s intimate connection with the Aegean Sea.
Innovations
Out of the Blue, Capsis Elite Resort now focuses on VIP guests and their families, destination weddings, honeymoons and wellness lovers, while still offering conference services with 13 venues.
Company’s devotion to offering excellent experiences has lead us to create outstanding services and activities such as the 4.000 m2 Minoan Kids Club, its award-winning wellness & rejuvenating spa and, most recently, three exciting escape rooms, making it the first resort in the world to create and operate such an activity.
Recognition and awards
These changes brought in an increasing international acclaim and further expanded the list of prestigious awards we have won, the latest being the “Best Hotel & Resort in Greece” at the 2017 Seven Stars Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards. The resort was also awarded in the Greek Tourism Awards for the “Facilities Excellence or Innovation” Silver Award 2017, for the innovative thematic escape rooms, the Dukan diet program, the Kids Pool Paradise and other services.
Other awards include the “Best Luxury resort in Greece” Silver Award in the Greek Tourism Awards 2016, the “Best Greek Spa Resort Award (more than 50 rooms)” from the Spa Traveller Awards and 2nd place in Innovation in Wellness from the Worldwide Hospitality Awards, both in 2015.
