Princess Lanassa Hotel – Ioannina
DESCRIPTION
Princess Lanassa Hotel is built in the 300-year-old country home of the Poulis family. It takes its name after the second wife of King Pyrrhos of Epirus. All individually styled bedrooms, suites and chalets are named after relatives or associates of Pyrrhos. There is a swimming pool, snack bar, barbeque and conference centre. It also boasts tennis and soccer five-a-side facilities, a gym with Jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath. At the hotel restaurant you can sample a variety of local specialities, prepared in a traditional way, with wholesome native products.
LOCATION
The hotel is located in Kostitsi, 16 km from the new Egnatia motorway, just a 25 minutes drive from Ioannina and its magnificent lake. It commands a breathtaking vista of the Tzoumerka Mountains and the Arachthos River Gorge.
ACTIVITIES
The hotel can be considered the ideal starting point for the classic rafting experience, defined by the two stone arched bridges of Politsa and Plaka. Trout fly-fishers can try their hand in the trout abundant waters of Arachthos and Kalarrytikos, which merge 600 m. below the hotel.
At a strolling distance away, you come across Ippostrouth, an ostridge and stud farm. There one can enjoy amazing rides in the rugged countryside.
The revamped paths of the area are ideal for hikers. The many dirt roads are perfectly suited for adventurous mountain bikers to exhibit their skills.
SITES OF INTEREST
A 30 to 90 minutes scenic drive, can lead you to numerous sites of historical and cultural interest and of memorable natural beauty. Notwithstanding Ioannina, home town of Ali Pasha, with its many shops, restaurants and bars, you can visit the Oracle and Ancient Theatre at Dodoni, Vrellis Wax Figures Museum and the Louros river, with its trout farms. Also well worth seeing, are the Tzoumerka Mountains with the picturesque villages of Agnanda, Pramanda, Melissourgoi, Kalarrytes and the renowned Syrrako, birthplace of Krystallis the poet. The candlelight midnight mass of Resurrection in the nearby Tsouka Monastery, is a spiritual experience not to be missed. The Zagori Villages, Vikos Gorge, Papingo Mountain, Zitsa, Acheron River (gate to the Underworld) and Souli make extremely interesting day trips.
